The goal of the study was to examine empathy in primary school age children with developmental delay. Two groups of first, second and third grade pupils participated in the study: children with developmental delays (127 subjects) and normally developing (123 subjects) children. The results show that children with developmental delays demonstrate some empathy features that are common for normal children as well as empathy features that are characteristic of children with developmental delay. Features of empathy in primary school age children with developmental delay are found to be independent of educational conditions (in special school or in special class of general education school).
