A model explaining the process of thinking as a movement along the cognitive landscape in a direction of its lowering is described. Cognitive landscapes corresponding to local and integral types of thinking are considered. Introduce The concept of varifocal thinking that is the ability of willfully changing the smoothness of cognitive landscape is introduced. The ways of overcoming the locality of thinking are mathematically justified.
