The principle of uncertainty in psychology of choice and risk

Abstract

The paper describes a theoretical framework for understanding the concept of uncertainty in psychology of choice and in the broader context of the contemporary interpretations of the principle of uncertainty. We describe the role of interdisciplinary approaches in the development of the understanding of predictable vs. unpredictable events. We present the psychological framework that integrates situational and dispositional factors with knowledge and risk in thinking. We highlight the role of personal self-determination in accepting and overcoming subjective uncertainty. We lay the foundation for the possible transition towards the dynamic paradigm in psychology of uncertainty. Finally, we further develop the idea of the unity of intellect and affect in the context of intellectual and personality potential and dynamic regulative systems that mediate choice and decision making.
