Emotional intelligence: from hierarchic models to the notion of a single cognitive ability

Abstract

The historical and theoretical review of the development of representations of emotional intelligence is presented in the article. Characteristics of the notion of emotional intelligence as well as the problems of its operationalization and structure are discussed within conceptual domain of psychology. The concept of personal intelligence that integrates social and emotional components and the idea of intellectual and personal potential of a person are considered within the context of intelligence and affect unity.
