The acceptance of uncertainty and machiavellism in the regulation of moral choice

Abstract

The problem of moral choice is presented in the context of personal self-regulation by the acceptance of uncertainty. Based on the empirical study data (100 subjects) the structural model of interconnections between preferences in moral dilemmas and levels of tolerance and intolerance for uncertainty, machiavellism and moral self-consciousness levels. The levels of moral self-consciousness are shown to mediate the influence of machiavellism on decision making while “prepersonal” self-consciousness levels which do not include orientation to the other values are shown to be connected with intolerance for uncertainty and personal levels are shown to be connected with tolerance for uncertainty.
