This study was aimed to evaluate psychometric properties of Russian version of the Couple Motivation Questionnaire (CMQ) and to compare it with the original one. We expected the structure of the Russian version of CMQ to be identical to the original. We also expected to capture continuum of motivation in romantic relationships based on the correlation analysis. The study was conducted online and included 497 respondents. Apart from the CMQ, the Test of Existential Motivations in Interpersonal Relationships (TEMIR), the Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS) and the The Spann-Fischer Codependency Scale (SF CDS) were applied. Theoretical model proposed in the original study (Blais et al., 1990), linked self-determination theory's motivational styles to adaptive relationship behaviors and the overall quality of romantic relationships. This model was confirmed in the Russian sample using a reverse translation and the psychometric testing of CMQ. The model was shown to be resistant to the cultural context. Thus, we propose a new tool for studying motivational aspects of romantic relationships in Russian samples.
