The current study is focused on the citizens’ perception of different types of officials. Different approaches to and issues of studying reputation in municipal and public service are outlined. The study sample included 20 participants aged 30 to 45 years who has ever contacted a municipal or public official for help or advice. Data was analyzed with the use of repertory grids. First stage of the study comprised the definition of 9 types of officials by experts. Further, the study participants were asked to identify each of the officials, compare them and assign similarities and differences between them. Analysis of the data obtained demonstrated that participants tend to ascribe certain types of officials with positive features, whereas others – with negative ones. At the same time, certain types of officials were marked with contrary features. Results of the study showed that when judging on the types of officials, people tend to rely on both personal and professional features of the officials. These results thus can contribute to the development of the municipal officers’ business reputation.
