Abstract

The article presents a Russian-language adaptation of the 12-point Self-Concept Clarity Scale (SCC, [Campbell et al, 1996]) on a sample of 349 participants. Good psychometric properties were confirmed. In particular, internal reliability was found to be good (α = 0,87), The factor analysis confirmed a one-factor structure of the SCC Scale, which corresponds with the factor structure of the original scale. The external validity of the scale was confirmed based on significant correlations between the clarity of self-concept with personality traits of neuroticism, openness to experience and their facets, as well as certain forms of reflection. High measures of self-concept clarity were positively associated with creative imagination and negatively with a esthetic sensitivity. Low measures of self-concept clarity correlated negatively with neuroticism and all its facets (depression, anxiety and emotional vulnerability), as well as the destructive forms of reflection (introspection and quasi-reflexion). Given results are sufficient to confirm applicability of the SCC Scale in Russian-speaking population. Future directions of research include the problem of self and personality traits, the phenomena of self-knowledge, unknown self and self-identity.
