Abstract

The study aims to identify the most significant characteristics of the ideal home. These characteristics are examined through verbal expressions of emotions. The study of the image of the ideal home has become increasingly relevant due to changes in people’s lifestyles and work practices, including the transition to hybrid work formats and the quarantines introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, the home environment is an important factor in maintaining psychological well-being. The novelty of the study lies in its focus on the emotional component of the image of the ideal home. This component is analyzed using a linguistic approach that takes into account denotative-ideographic groups and functional-semantic categories. Denotative-ideographic groups represent macrostructural elements of the lexicon of emotive vocabulary that reflect major types of emotions, whereas functional-semantic categories represent linguistic classes describing different ways in which emotions are experienced and expressed. The aim of the study was to describe the emotional component of the image of the ideal home in adults. The sample included 286 participants aged 18 to 83 years. The research methods included psychosemantic and psycholinguistic analysis of emotive vocabulary, as well as frequency analysis. Participants were asked to provide nine associations with the phrase “ideal home” (three nouns, three verbs, and three adjectives). From the resulting set of associations, the most frequent responses were selected, and those belonging to emotive vocabulary were identified. Categorization was performed in accordance with the dictionary-thesaurus of emotive vocabulary of the Russian language by L. G. Babenko. The results indicate that: (1) the emotional component of the ideal home in adults is primarily associated with the semantic categories of warmth and love; (2) the core denotative-ideographic groups reflecting the emotional component of the ideal home are joy and love; and (3) the core functional-semantic categories include emotional characterization of a person as the bearer of emotions, emotional attitude, and emotional state. Thus, psycholinguistic analysis can be effectively applied to assess the emotional component of representations of the ideal home. This emotional component reflects the most personally significant aspects of life associated with the home in its idealized form.
