Psychological peculiarities of professional self-realization and self-determination in counselors working for telephone emergency services

Abstract

Based on self-realization concept theoretical analyses of activity of counseling psychologists who work for telephone emergency services was conducted. Peculiarities of professional self-realization and self-determination in phone counseling psychologists are compared with those in other professionals. The empirical study (N = 53) revealed the relationship between personality self-realization level and career planning efforts and efforts to find personal meaning in professional activity. The following factors of successful self-realization within telephone counseling were identified: opportunity to get the professional support and striving for accomplishment of the social mission.
