Abstract

The results of theoretical and empirical study of functional characteristics and crisis potential of unrealistic meaning of life are presented. Based on empirical data the following hypothesis is proved: the level of realism is a functionally important property which substantially determines the measure of optimality of the meaning of life and the individual predisposition to meaning of life crisis. The sample was 262 subjects aged 18–57 including 113 men and 149 women. It is established that the crisis potential of unrealistic meaning is in many ways due to its difficult and unproductive realization in everyday life.
