Clinical and psychological mechanisms of anosognosia development in alcoholic patients

Abstract

Mechanisms of development of inner picture of disease in alcoholic patients with total or partial anosognosia who understood their alcohol addiction were examined. Clinical study methods were used together with methods of studying psychological defense mechanisms, ultimate meanings and personality constructs. Inner picture of disease peculiarities found in the groups examined (N = 75) may be used as differential diagnostic criteria for choosing alcoholic patients treatment regimen.
