Abstract

Practical guidelines for psychological follow-up of families with schizophrenia patients of young age are given. The guidelines are based on results of a study of family relations effect on patients' social adaptation. Parents’ perceptions of their child’s disease onset and its consequences; parents’ behavior strategies towards the patient; awareness of changes in family role structure due to the child’s disease; parents’ attitudes towards the disease and the patient (assessments and expectations) are analyzed as targets of psychological work.
