Pro-environmental behavior in Russia: Adaptation of the Recurrent Pro-Environmental Behavior Scale (Brick et al., 2017) and the relationship with environmental concern

Abstract

In the context of rapid environmental degradation and climate change due to human impact, research on pro-environmental behavior has become increasingly important. Behavior aimed at environmental harm reduction and behavior that benefits the environment are considered as pro-environmental. In this study we adapted the Scale of Recurring Pro-Environmental Behavior developed by Brick et al. and investigated its relationship with environmental concern in Russia. Consisting of 21 items, the scale covered choice of transport, consumption, personal waste management, resource saving and social behavior. The study included 412 participants from Russia. Our results confirmed internal consistency of the scale and its convergent validity compared to the environmental concern. Additionally, we examined factorial structure of the scale. Suggestions regarding the use of the scale in future research are given.
