Adaptation of the Short Dark Triad

Abstract

The article presents the results of the adaptation and validation of the Short Dark Triad (SD3). Participants in the study were 571 adults (58,5% women) aged 16 to 84 (М = 36,28, SD = 13,28). Factor structures of original and adopted versions of the Short Dark Triad have only minor differences. Internal consistency of Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy scales – 0,72, 0,74, 0,70 respectively. Correlations between the Dark Triad traits are in the 0,31–0,42 range and are in line with the results of the other studies. Convergent validity is in the 0,52–0,66 range. Associations between the Dark Triad traits and HEXACO domains are in accordance with expected: The Dark Triad traits have the most close relationships with Honesty / Humility. Besides all the Dark Triad traits are shown to be closely linked with Emotionality and Agreeableness, and psychopathy – with Conscientiousness (all relations are negative). Satisfactory psychometric properties allow to use Russian version of the Short Dark Triad for the evaluation of the Dark Triad traits.
